How to Leave a Gift in Your Will
A valid will is the only legal way to ensure that your wishes are carried out, and the people and charities you care about are looked after in the future. We also suggest that you discuss your decision to make a bequest with your loved ones.
It is important to use the correct wording to leave a gift in your will to the Trust Fund.
We have made some recommendations below based on how you wish to make your bequest.
Residue of your estate
Once your family and friends have been provided for, and any debt is paid, you may choose to leave the rest of your estate to the Trust Fund. This can made done using the following wording in your will:
“I give all the rest of my real and personal property, whatever and wherever situated, to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund (ABN 40 586 071 671) for its general purposes and the receipt of the Manager or other authorised officer of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc shall be sufficient discharge to my executor or trustee.”
A percentage of your estate
You may wish to leave the Trust Fund with a percentage of your estate. This takes into account any growth or depletion of the value of your estate over time. The appropriate wording for this type of will is:
“I give __% of my estate to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc. (ABN 40 586 071 671) for its general purposes and the receipt of the Manager or other authorised officer of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc shall be sufficient discharge to my executor or trustee.”
Specific sum
If you would like to leave a specific sum of money to the Trust Fund, you can use the following wording in your will:
“I give the sum of $___ to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc. (ABN 40 586 071 671) for its general purposes and the receipt of the Manager or other authorised officer of the AWRCC Trust Fund Inc shall be sufficient discharge to my executor or trustee.”
Specific item
You may wish to leave the Trust Fund a specific gift such as property, shares or an item of jewellery. This can be done using the following wording in your will:
“I give _______ to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc. (ABN 40 586 071 671) for its general purposes and the receipt of the Manager or other authorised officer of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc shall be sufficient discharge to my executor or trustee.”
