Where Your Money Goes
The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund is a 100% local charity, with all money raised used to support cancer services in our local region.
With your support, the Trust is able to enhance the wonderful treatment and care provided at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre. We do this by investing in new life-saving medical equipment, staff training and development, and cancer research.
We also fund a range of services through the Wellness Centre which aim to support the emotional, spiritual and psychological needs of patients in conjunction with their medical treatment.
The Trust Fund will allocate your donation to the service area most in need. The four main areas of consideration are:
New Life-Saving Medical Equipment
Your support allows us to expand the range of life-saving medical equipment available to cancer patients in our region. In the past, this has included specialist diagnostic and laser equipment previously only available in capital cities.
Some examples are:
- Surgical microscope and associated equipment ($337,000) – to perform breast reconstructions and other reconstructive surgery after cancer;
- eBUS endoscope ($175,000) – to diagnose lung and upper gastrointestinal tract cancers;
- Laser ($150,000) – to perform larynx surgery as well as ear, nose and throat, urology and gynaecology procedures; and,
- Rhinolaryngoscope ($115,000) – to examine head and neck cancers.
Staff Training and Development
Funds raised by the Trust ensure that our staff are trained in best practice cancer care.
We have committed $100,000 a year to an Oncology Education Program, offering professional development, training and scholarship opportunities for both staff working within the centre, as well as those caring for patients out in the community.
We also fund a Nursing Scholarship Program which provides financial assistance to staff wishing to undertake post graduate study in oncology. This offers staff the opportunity to further develop their skills and provide an advanced level of care to our patients.
Cancer Research
Research conducted at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre aims to give patients local access to high quality clinical trials, improve outcomes for cancer patients and impact on the future direction of cancer treatment.
As well as funding equipment vital to clinical trials, the Trust also invests $100,000 a year in additional staff dedicated to researching prostate and ovarian cancers.
Wellness Centre
The Wellness Centre provides extra support to cancer patients and their families when they need it the most.
Through the Wellness Centre, the Trust Fund invests $250,000 a year in a range of programs and services that aim to support the psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients.
Some examples of how this funding is used include exercise oncology, mindfulness and counselling services, as well as the provision of relevant cancer information and links with local support groups.
All donations made to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund are fully tax deductible.
