Football and netball clubs from across the region have helped Terry Sock it to Cancer.

Inspired by former Ovens and Murray champion, Terry Greaves, Terry Socks it to Cancer saw players and umpires wear bright pink, yellow or blue socks in support of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund.

Almost 40 clubs took part in the campaign, raising more than $11,500.

Mr Greaves said the involvement of the Tallangatta and District Football League for the first time this year saw the campaign reach out to more outlying communities.

“Everyone in the district, from right up to Mt Beauty, over to Bright, down to Mansfield and all the clubs in between were on board this year,” he said.

“It brings everyone together for a great cause.”

Mr Greaves, of Markwood, has been receiving treatment for metastatic melanoma since 2020.

Terry Socks it to Cancer kicked off with the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League round on June 10, followed by Tallangatta District, Hume, and Ovens and King leagues in July and August.

It also involved clubs from the Albury Wodonga Junior, Goulburn Valley and Picola football leagues, as well as AFL Umpires Border North East and Benalla Health.
