Charity Event Scores Big: Raising $5,400 During State of Origin Soccer Match

The highly anticipated State of Origin charity fundraiser held on the 14th September, proved to be a monumental success, raising significant funds for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund. Featuring elite players from the best of the best, the event showcased thrilling matches, with both New South Wales teams claiming victory in the men’s and women’s games.

The atmosphere was electric as fans gathered to witness a display of talent and sportsmanship. The competitive spirit of the players was matched only by the generosity of the supporters, who contributed to the fundraising efforts throughout the event. Equally important was the contribution from all the volunteers who helped ensure the games went ahead, including Sam Wilson, President of Twin City Wanderers, who ensured the playing fields were ready.

In a heartwarming post-event catch-up, representatives from Albury Wodonga Football Association (AWFA) presented a $5,400 cheque to the Trust Fund, marking a meaningful contribution towards cancer support in the Albury Wodonga community.

“Community events like this one, enable the Trust Fund to continue to support cancer patients in our community. This new partnership between AWFA and the Trust Fund is significantly important to us” said Craig Underhill, Ex-Officio Member of the Trust Fund Board.

“We are grateful to everyone who participated, from players to fans, for their unwavering support. The funds raised enable us to run critical programs that are not covered by government funding” Craig said.

Highlights of the event included outstanding performances from star players, inspiring speeches from community leaders, and an engaging atmosphere filled with camaraderie and spirit. The success of this year’s fundraiser sets the stage for ambitious plans for 2025.

Bree Kusic, AWFA Association Administrator described the games as “Fun and high-quality football games.”

“The matches served as a good community event, fostering camaraderie and competition. And we are excited to build on this momentum and look forward to next year’s event, which promises to be even bigger and better” Bree said.

AWFA and Trust Fund extend their heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers for making this event a resounding success. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events and initiatives as the organizations work together to create a brighter future for all.
