Locals helping locals at the Chiltern Cancer Cruise Car and Bike Show
Celebrating the memory of the late motoring enthusiasts John Jameson, Kelvin Duke and Bruce Gibbens, dedicated supporters of the Chiltern Cancer Cruise came together in April to raise money for the Albury Wodonga Regional Trust Fund. The focus of the event is on family fun, friendship and the sharing of knowledge and passion for vehicles, without a hint of competition.
Chiltern Cancer Cruise Coordinator Owen Gibbens is incredibly proud of the long running event. Owen explains that “The this event has been running for 26 years, and is open to vintage cars, classic cars or any car that you are proud of. If you can get your car there, it’s on display”.
The event is supported by the Chiltern Tourism and Development Inc., the Riverina Sports Car Association, Shannon’s Insurance, Murray Heritage Motorists Inc., independent car enthusiasts and other small clubs from the region. Many locals also selflessly donate their time to support a local charity.
This year the Chiltern Girl Guides returned to run their annual BBQ breakfast and lunch. The Lake Anderson Caravan Park donated the power required to run the day, the Rutherglen Pickers held a stall selling Mancave memorabilia, and upcoming artists entertained the crowd.
Owen was thrilled with the day and said: “Our motto is ‘Locals helping locals’ and thanks to all those involved, there are no running costs for the event”.
“This means that 100% of the funds raised go directly to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund” Owen said.
Owen was excited to learn that the Riverina Sports Club Association made a single donation of $2,000. At the end of the day, the Chiltern Tourism & Development pool all other donations including gate takings and this year donated a total of $2,993.
With plans underway for the 2025 event to be held on the 13 April, the Trust Fund wishes Owen and his committee of volunteers all the very best in the planning stages. We very much look forward to hearing all about your plans for growing the event and want to thank you for your valuable donation.
