Kim is up for the Lake Hume Cycle Challenge

JUST months after finishing treatment for breast cancer, Kim Thomas set herself the challenge of riding 65km through some of the region’s steepest countryside.

The Wodonga nurse enjoyed the huge task so much that she is gearing up for her fourth Jayco Albury Wodonga Lake Hume Cycle Challenge on Sunday, March 12.

“Cycling makes me feel really free,” she said.

“It was a really big help while I was undergoing treatment, not only for my fitness, but my mental wellbeing too.”

Mrs Thomas will complete the 65km Sandy Creek loop, with other four options ranging from the 15km family ride to the 80km Bethanga Beast.

All rides will start and finish at Ebden Reserve and be centred on the High Country Rail Trail and offer spectacular water and mountain views.

The challenge is organised by the Rotary clubs of Albury North and Bellbridge-Lake Hume, with proceeds going towards the Wellness Centre within the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.

The event has raised more than $205,000 for the Wellness Centre since 2013.
