Statement regarding our role in the cancer services transition.
To our valued supporters of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund (AWRCCTF),
I am writing to reassure you that all money donated to our organisation will continue to be directed to local cancer services.
There have been many questions from the community regarding the transition from a public/private partnership to a public model cancer service at the AWRCC. We are unable to answer many enquiries, however, one that we can answer is “What will my donation to the AWRCC Trust Fund be used for once the transition takes place?”
The answer is very simple – we do not anticipate any changes to our currently funded programs. We will continue to fully fund the Wellness Centre and it’s supportive care programs, we will continue to fund research and clinical trials, we will continue to provide the chance for staff to further their knowledge through either training opportunities, conferences or scholarships, and we will continue to provide life-saving medical equipment for the region.
We are also very proud to fully fund a Paediatric Cancer Care Coordinator through Albury Wodonga Health, as well as part fund another Cancer Care Coordinator who services the older generation. Both positions have had a huge impact on the holistic care provided to patients and their families going through treatment. We also anticipate no changes in these programs.
All service providers in our region are eligible to receive funding. They include but are not limited to:
- Albury Wodonga Health (AWH)
- Border Medical Oncology (BMO)
- BMO Research Unit (BMORU)
- Ramsay Health Care
- Genesis Care
It is important to remember that the AWRCC Trust Fund is an independent organisation. We are governed by a local board of directors who all have a deep connection to our region and have personally been affected by cancer either directly, or indirectly. We will ensure that donations are spent wisely and efficiently to maximise benefits for cancer patients and their loved ones in our community.
Our vision remains the same: Every person diagnosed with cancer in our regional community can have access to high quality cancer treatment and/or support services close to home and their loved ones.
Our community has worked tirelessly to help raise funds to achieve this. We will continue to work closely with our community to achieve our vision.
We can’t wait to see you all at the Sunshine Walk on the 9th of November at Hovell Tree Park Albury. Whether you are walking 5, 10 or 20km, or even just donating to someone who is, you can be rest assured that your hard-earned money will stay 100% local and be used solely for the purpose of improving cancer services. I encourage you to join us once again in what is always a highlight in the Albury Wodonga calendar.
Yours Sincerely,
Andrew Mackinlay
AWRCC Trust Fund Manager
