Local Hero Lachy Cuts Hair, Raises $6,278 for Cancer Services
After five years of growing his hair, local student Lachy decided to make a difference by chopping it all off for charity. His hair was donated to Variety, an organization that creates wigs for children with cancer and alopecia.
“I started growing it because someone at school was doing it,” Lachy said. “But then we had the idea to cut it off and donate it for kids with cancer. I was excited, a little nervous, but it felt good to do something meaningful.”
The big cut happened at Ainz’s Chop Shop, where Lachy’s five ponytails were carefully prepared for donation. It takes 20 plaited ponytails to make a wig, and Lachy’s contribution will help bring comfort and confidence to a child in need.
But the generosity didn’t stop there. Lachy also created a fundraising page, setting an initial goal of $1,500. The community quickly rallied behind him, and the donations poured in, ultimately reaching an incredible $6,278.
Lachy’s school also joined the effort, sharing the link on their Facebook page and encouraging even more support.
His mum said, “It’s amazing to see how many people got behind this cause. It really shows the power of community.”
Lachy encourages others to follow his lead: “If you’re thinking about it, just do it. It’s an amazing experience, and it helps so many people.”
Lachy’s story is a reminder of the impact one person can make with a little courage and a lot of heart.
