Blokes Day: Bowls, BBQ, and a Big Impact

Each year on Oaks Day, the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort (YMGCR) Bowls Club hosts a special event with a powerful purpose: Blokes Day. What began as a friendly bowls tournament has become a heartfelt tradition, raising vital funds for cancer support and research in our region.

It’s a day filled with laughter, local camaraderie, and a classic BBQ lunch—but it also carries an important message. Organisers use the occasion to raise awareness about prostate cancer, encouraging men to stay on top of their health with regular PSA checks and early symptom recognition.

Blokes Day holds special meaning for the club, with several members being long-time prostate cancer survivors who deeply value the ongoing support and local research that have helped them along their journey.

Thanks to generous sponsors like the Lidgerwood brothers and Brad Winderbank of Arrow Wood Products (whose father Norm is a club bowler), and the many Yarrawonga businesses who donate raffle prizes, the event continues to thrive.

With strong support from local teams and a combined contribution from the YMGCR Golf and Bowls clubs, the fundraiser has proudly donated $5,000 in both 2023 and 2024—a testament to the spirit of giving that defines this community.

Looking ahead to October 2025, the YMGCR Bowls Club is already gearing up for another memorable Blokes Day. Because when bowls, BBQ, and brotherhood come together, the impact is anything but small.
